RAJSHAHI: Police detained outlaw militant outfit Hizb ut-Tahrir regional chief Mahmudur Rahman Ovi was detained from Rajshahi.
Moreover, a huge amount of leaflets were seized during the drive.
The law enforcers held the militant leader early Wednesday and confirmed the detainment this afternoon.
Rajshahi Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) inspector Anwar Ali said that the detainee was chief of the outfit’s Rajshahi region.
He was secretly working to collect members and expand organizational activities, the inspector added.
On tip-off, police conducted a drive at Mahmudur Rahman’s house early in Wednesday morning and nabbed him there.
PBI additional police super (ASP) Enamul Kabir said that the ICT unit had been observing Mahmudur for six months.
According to him, the detainee has communication with international militant outfit Islamic State (IS).
An anti-terrorism case will be filed against the militant leader and sought remand after producing him before the court, the ASP added.
