CHAPAINAWABGANJ: Police detained 15 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student front Islami Chhatra Shibir with weapons and explosives from Khasher haat area of Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.

Police seized three local weapons, 17 cocktails and 2.5-kg gunpowder from the detainees’ possession.

They were detained while organizing a secrete meeting around 3:00pm Thursday.

The detainees include Islami Chhatra Shibir district unit financial affairs secretary Al Amin.

Confirming the matter, Shibganj Thana officer-in-charge (OC) MA Moynul Islam said on tip-off they conducted the drive and nabbed the Jamaat-Shibir men with weapons and explosives.

Shibganj Thana sub-inspector (SI) Nure Alam said that the detainees are accused in several cases including of murder, violence and arson attacks.
