MP Liton asked to surrender in lower court by Oct 18

DHAKA: The High Court (HC) asked Gaibandha-1 constituency lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton to surrender before lower court by October 18 in the case filed for shooting a boy Sourabh rejecting his bail petition.

Earlier, the ruling Awami League (AL) lawmaker appeared before the HC on Monday in the case as per court order that passed while hearing an anticipatory bail petition.

The HC bench of justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Bhismadev Chakrabarti asked the lawmaker to appear before it at 1:00pm.

Later, he reached the HC court 10-minute before the stipulated time to appear, said a spot account.

Lawyer Mokhsedul Islam moved for the bail hearing.

Earlier on Sunday, lawyer Ariful Islam filed the petition in the HC seeking anticipatory bail of his client.

On October 2, a nine-year-old schoolboy was shot in legs allegedly by lawmaker Liton in Gopalcharan area in Sundarganj upazila of Gaibandha district.

Day after the incident, Sourabh's father Saju Mia filed a case with Sundarganj Police Station against the lawmaker.
