DHAKA: Jatiya Party (JP) chairman Hussain Muhammad Ershad has kept the authority of selecting municipal candidates, who would contest in the impending polls, from his party under his belt.

He sent a letter to the Election Commission (EC) on Saturday in this regard.

Party joint secretary general Nurul Islam Nuru carried the letter to EC deputy secretary Shamsul Islam.

Nuru also said to journalists that JP candidates will contest in all 236 municipalities in the elections scheduled to be held on December 30.

The EC, however, set December 3 as last date for submission of nomination papers, December 5 and 6 for scrutinizing them and December 13 as last date for withdrawal of candidacy.
