DHAKA: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad categorically said that the municipal elections should be held by December 30.

He made this assertion to the media after his separate meetings with political parties on Sunday.

The CEC said that several political parties asked the election commission to defer the date of municipal elections.

‘There is a legal obligation that elections for some of the municipalities should be held by December 30.’

‘But the EC’s decision over the party demands will be disclosed on November 30,’ he added.
