DHAKA: Submission of nomination papers for the forthcoming municipal election came to an end on Thursday evening (December 3).

AL, BNP and other political parties have already nominated their candidates. The nominated candidates finished submission of their forms within 5:00pm on the day.

EC election management assistant secretary Rajib Ahsan said that it can be understood that all of the parties will participate in the election. Though, it can only be cleared on Thursday that how many parties would participate in the forthcoming election.

However, Krishok Sramik Janata League president Bangabir Kader Siddiqui has announced the boycott of this poll.

The submitted nomination papers will go through scrutiny on December 5 and 6. After this process, the failure candidates can appeal against the decision of the returning officers.

After the settlement of these appeals, the candidates can withdraw their candidacy by December 13.  Then, the EC will allocate symbols to the candidates and they can start their campaigns.

The voting of 235 municipal corporations will be held on December 30. Candidates will compete against 235 mayoral, 2,961 general councilor and 742 reserved councilor posts.

There will be 3,582 polling stations so far to take vote. There are 3,586,356 male and 3,576,040 female voters in the electoral areas.

As many as 61,143 officials will be supervising the elections.
