DHAKA: A total of 13,689 aspirants had submitted nomination forms for the forthcoming elections in 234 municipalities, slated for December 30.

There are 1223 in mayoral posts while 2,668 in reserved councilor posts and 9,798 in general councilor posts. 

Assistant secretary of the Election Commission (EC) informed the development to banglanews on Friday.

Voting will be held in 3,582 poling centers simultaneously on December 30.

Returning Officers will scrutinize the nomination forms submitted by aspirants on Saturday and Sunday (December 5-6).

These polls for mayoral posts will be held along party lines for the first time in the country's history.

But polls for councilor and reserved councilor posts seats for women will be non-partisan as usual.

Candidates will compete against 235 mayoral, 2,961 general councilor and 742 reserved councilor posts.

There will be 3,582 polling stations so far to take vote. There are 3,586,356 male and 3,576,040 female voters in the electoral areas.

As many as 61,143 officials will be supervising the elections.
