DHAKA: BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir commented that his party has joined upcoming municipal polls as a part of its movement for the revival of democracy.
He made this comment to the media at BNP headquarters in city’s Naya Paltan area on Sunday morning.
He said that the government has kept many of BNP leaders and activists in jail. The arrest drives are continuing. ‘The cause of participation in polls amid this adverse situation means BNP is working for the revival of democracy,’ he added.
The BNP leader also made allegation against the Election Commission (EC) for its partiality to the ruling power.
BNP organizing secretary Fazlul Haque Milon, international affairs secretary Dr Asaduzzaman Ripon and youth affairs secretary Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, among others, were present at the meeting.
