DHAKA: A total of 1,096 mayoral aspirants had submitted nomination forms for the forthcoming elections in 234 municipalities, slated for December 30.

Of the submitted forms, the Election Commission (EC) canceled 136 nomination forms during scrutiny held on December 5 and 6.

EC deputy secretary Shamsul Alam informed the development to banglanews on Monday (December 7).

He also said that 156 nomination forms out of 2,668 reserved councilor aspirants have been cancelled while 572 forms out of 9,740 in general councilor posts were canceled.

A total of 864 forms out of 13,504 submitted nominations have been cancelled.

Voting will be held in 3,582 poling centers simultaneously on December 30.

Candidates will compete against 235 mayoral, 2,961 general councilor and 742 reserved councilor posts.

There will be 3,582 polling stations so far to take vote. There are 3,586,356 male and 3,576,040 female voters in the electoral areas.

As many as 61,143 officials will be supervising the polls.
