DHAKA: The High Court (HC) on Monday granted one-year bail to Barrister Fakhrul Islam in a case for leaking draft verdict of executed war criminal BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
The bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Amir Hossain passed the order after hearing the bail petition.
Advocte Joynul Abedin moved for the bail petition in the court.
The trail proceedings of the case are being held at the judge of Dhaka Cyber Crimes Tribunal SM Shamsul Alam.
Four accused, including Barrister Fakhrul, are in jail for their alleged involvement in leaking the draft verdict in the war crimes case against the BNP lawmaker.
On August 28, 2014, Detective Branch of police submitted charge sheet against Barrister Fakhrul Islam and six others in a case for leaking draft verdict of war criminal BNP leader Salauddin Quader Chowdhury.
The accused are Farhat Quader Chowdhury, wife of Salauddin Quader Chowdhury, son Humam Chowdhury, SQ Chowdhury’s manager AKM Mahbubul Hasan and Mehedi Hasan, junior lawyer of Barrister Fakhrul and Faruk Hossain, office assistant of ICT, and cleaner Noyan Ali.
On October 1, International Crimes Tribunal-1 awarded death penalty to BNP lawmaker Salauddin Quader Chowdhury for his involvement in crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
