DHAKA: The Supreme Court (SC) chamber judge stayed till January 21 the High Court (HC) order that stayed the upcoming election in Singair municipality of Manikganj district.
Following the order, there is no bar to hold election in the municipality, said the lawyers.
Chamber Judge Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Monday (December 7).
Deputy attorney general Motaher Hossain Saju moved for the state.
On December 2, the HC bench of Justice Jinant Ara and Justice AKM Shahidul Haque issued a 6-month stay order on holding Singair municipality elections after hearing a writ petition.
Mostaque Ahmed Bhuiyan, a voter of the municipality, filed the petition on allegation of irregularities in its voter list.
The court also issued rule asking why new voter list would not be prepared in the municipality.
Later, the state appealed seeking cancelation of the HC order.
