COMILLA: The local administration Sunday imposed section 144 in Daudkandi upazila to avert outbreaks of violence as rival Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal and Bangladesh Chhatra League took a collision course arranging iftar mahfil at the same place and same time.

Daudkandi thana OC SM Kawsar Uddin Chowdhury said the upazila-unit JCD and Sundarpur Union BCL arranged separate iftar mahfils at Sahidnagar M A Jalil High School ground for Sunday.

BNP standing Committee Member Dr. Khandakar Mossaraf Hossain was to attend JCD’s evening party and a discussion arranged marking the 32nd founding anniversary of BNP.

“Under the circumstances, the upazila administration slapped the ban in and around the school from 12 noon Sunday to 5am Monday to disengage the political rivals,” said Daudkandi UNO Anwarul Naser.
 
Additional police were deployed in the area.

The local administration had imposed section 144 on August 22, 30 and September 1 in the upazila for arranging iftar mahfils by several rival groups of overzealous rural politicos.
