DHAKA: As many as 1,204 magistrates will be deployed in the approaching municipal polls with the view to thwart anomalies and punish the involved persons in such incidents.
Of them, 965 will be executive magistrates and 239 judicial.
The Election Commission (EC) has already issued letters to the secretary of law ministry Abu Saleh Sheikh M Zahirul Haque and senior secretary of public administration ministry Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury in this regard.
The letters, signed by EC deputy secretary Mohsinul Haque, stated that EC has decided to deploy one judicial magistrate each in municipalities comprising wards less than 18 and two judicial magistrates each in municipalities comprising wards more than 18.
The judicial magistrates will observe their duties for four days from December 28.
Meanwhile, the letter sent to public administration ministry said one executive magistrate each will be deployed in 235 municipalities from December 13 to December 31.
Besides, 730 executive magistrates will be deployed for every three wards of a municipality from December 28 to December 31, it added.
Polls in 235 municipalities will be held on December 30.
