‘There should be freedom of expression’

DHAKA: BNP believes in liberal democracy and it wants people to be endowed with the right to freedom of expression as well as chances to put into practice their wishes.

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia came up with the assertions while holding a meeting with a visiting US delegation led by US Under Secretary for Political Affairs Thomas Shannon at her Gulshan political office in city from 11:00am to 12:00pm.

BNP standing committee member Dr Moin Khan informed journalists after the meeting.

He said BNP said the US delegation that only practice of democracy can ensure economic development.

He, however, did not talk about what US delegation said.

Manpreet Singh Anand, Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asian Affairs of Bureau of South and Central Asian Affairs and US ambassador to Bangladesh Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat were also present here.

BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, standing committee member Dr Moin Khan, chairperson’s advisers Riaz Rahman and Sabih Uddin Ahmed also attended the meeting.
