FROM GULSHAN: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia reiterated her party’s decision to stay in the upcoming municipality poll contest till the end.
Moreover, the BNP chief alleged that the government has taken all preparations to make the upcoming polls a ‘farce’.
She made this assertion at a press conference held at her political office in city’s Gulshan area on Monday afternoon.
‘Militancy has got its ground in the country during the tenure of the Awami League government.’
She added, ‘The government is suppressing the opposition in the name of curbing militancy’.
At the conference, Khaleda Zia also repeated her party-led alliance’s demand of army deployment during the polls.
BNP standing committee members Barrister Moudud Ahmed, Dr Abdul Moin Khan, Brigadier General (retd) ASM Hannan Shah and Goeshwar Chandra Roy; Jamaat-e-Islami executive council member Mawlana Abdul Halim, Bangladesh Jatiya Party (BJP) chairman Andaleeb Rahman Partha; Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (JAGPA) president Shafiul Alam Pradhan and National Awami League (NAP) secretary general Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan, among others, were present at the press conference.
