DHAKA: Election Commission (EC) on Friday (April 22) decided to postpone polls in three Union Parishads (UPs) on judicial ground.

The UPs included Shilarchar of Madaripur, Mahmudpur of Shariatpur and Bardhul of Sirajganj districts.

Polls were scheduled to be held on Saturday (April 23).

EC election managing department deputy secretary Mohammad Shamsul Alam has sent letters to returning officers regarding the polls postponement.

The 3rd phase of elections in 620 UPs is set to be held on April 23. Now, elections will be held in 617 UPs.

However, EC has decided to arrange polls over 4,500 UPs in six phases across the country.
