DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) on Sunday (April 24) announced the unofficial results of 551 Union Parishads (UPs) out of 614 in the 3rd phase of election.

According to unofficial results of 551 UPs, ruling Awami League (AL) candidates have been elected in 353 while Independent candidates have won 121. Besides, BNP candidates have so far been elected in 57 UPs.

The EC further said that voter turn-out, in this phase, was 77 percent on April 23.

On the election day, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmed claimed that the third phase of Union Parishads (UP) elections was held peacefully than the earlier phases.

He made the claim while addressing a press conference at EC media center in city after the end of voting in the afternoon.

However, there were several incidents of violence reported during the polls.
