Khaleda asked to surrender in 2 months

DHAKA: High Court has published full verdict terming Bara Pukuria coal mine graft case legal and asked BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia to surrender in two months.

An HC bench passed the order on Wednesday (May 25).

Meanwhile, the trial is underway at the court of Dhaka-3 Special Judge Aminul Islam. June 12 has been fixed as chare framing date.

On October last year, High Court cleared the way for a trial court to resume its proceedings against Khaleda Zia in Barapukuria corruption case.

Earlier, Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case on February 26, 2008 accusing Khaleda and 15 others of causing a loss of Tk 159 crore to the state exchequer by awarding a contract for operation of Barapukuria coalmine to a Chinese company through abuse of power.
