DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) has coordinated the fifth phase election results of 716 Union Parishad’s (UPs) where ruling Awami League (AL) won in 431, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won in 67 UPs.

Moreover, 170 independent candidates were elected in the polls.

EC election management branch published the result on Sunday (May 29).

However, results of 38 UPs have not been included as voting in some polling centers had been suspended following clashes.

A total of 8,746,067 voters enjoyed their franchise rights presenting 76.08 percent of total voters.

In all five phases of UP elections, as many as 1,836 candidates have won from AL and 243 from BNP.

The fifth phase UP election was held on Saturday (May 28) and the sixth and last phase is scheduled to be held on June 4.
