40 injured in Habiganj post-poll violence

HABIGANJ: At least 40 people were injured in a post-election clash between the supporters of winning and defeated parties centering the chairmanship from Pail Union Parishad under sadar upazila of the district on Monday (June 6).

Locals alleged that the supporters of defeated chairman candidate of ruling Awami League (AL) Saheb Ali attacked the house of winner Arif’s supporter Abdur Rouf around 1:00pm in the area.

At one stage, both the candidates supporters locked into clashes for an hour, leaving 40 people hurt.

They were taken to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital, the locals added.

Being informed, Habiganj Thana police rushed to the spot and fired 30 rounds of bullet to control the situation.

Habiganj Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Nazim Uddin said police members have been deployed in the area to avert further clash.
