PM speech to provoke extremists: Fakhrul

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Thursday (June 9) alleged that the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s speech at Ganabhaban on Wednesday will provoke the extremists to commit more crimes.

The BNP leader was addressing a press conference at party’s Nayapaltan headquarters in the afternoon as a formal reaction to Sheikh Hasina’s speech.

Quoting the premier, Fakhrul said she got evidences about BNP’s involvement in recent assassinations in the country.

“Then, my question is, if she has got all the evidences then, why did she not disclose the information about the murder of journalist couple Sagor and Runi, murder of Natore chairman Babu, looting of thousands of crores of money from banking sector and last but not the least, the heist at Bangladesh Bank,” he added.

Terming Sheikh Hasina’s speech as totally untrue, baseless, provocative and politically motivated, Fakhrul said such speech will encourage the extremists.

Senior joint secretary general, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, assistant organizing secretary Advocate Abdus Salam Azad and assistant office secretary Asadul Karim Shahin were, among others, present in the conference.
