DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) has nominated Jewel Areng, son of late social welfare state minister Advocate Promode Mankin, and Nazimuddin Ahmed as its candidates for the by-polls in Mymensingh-1 and Mymensingh-3 constituencies.

The decision was taken in an AL parliamentary board meeting after the interviews of the aspirants on Thursday afternoon (June 16).

The meeting was held at the Ganabhaban official residence of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina with her chair.

However, the by-polls of two parliamentary seats is scheduled to be held on July 18.

The seats were vacant after the deaths of social welfare state minister Advocate Promode Mankin and Captain (retd) Mujibur Rahman Fakir.
