SYLHET: Miscreants chopped a union level leader of ruling Awami League (AL) and injured another at Charkhai union under Biyanibazar upazila of the district on Wednesday afternoon (June 22).

The deceased was identified as Mahtab Uddin, 35, agriculture affairs secretary at Charkhai union, hailed from the village.

Locals said the murdered was the consequence of clashes over land property.

Meanwhile, police detained eight from the spot regarding the incident.

Witnesses said a gang of 10/12 miscreants chopped Mahtab Uddin dead in broad daylight while he was returning home on a bullock cart.

Biyanibazar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Juber Ahmed confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He further said the injured was taken to MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
