Democracy can defeat militancy: BNP

DHAKA: BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Saturday (June 25) alleged incumbent government is now busy to suppress the voice of BNP instead uprooting extremism from the country.

He further said the government is filing cases against everyone who entertains opposing ideas and sending them away to jails.

Mirza Fakhrul was addressing Dhaka University (DU)’s former vice-chancellor (VC) Dr Moniruzzaman Miah commemoration program, organized by Zia Parishad at Nayapaltan in city.

“We asked the government to call an all party convention after the murder of Italian national Tavela Ceaser but it declined saying this is not the time for such a convention.”

“Open the door to democracy, Militancy will be defeated to it,” he added.

Another former DU VC Professor Emajuddin Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
