DHAKA: One of the attackers of the Thursday’s violent incident near Sholakia Eid Maidan in Kishoreganj district has been identified.
The youth arrested from Sholakia was identified as Shafiul, the son of a BNP man and also a television mechanic Abdul Hye, hailing from Marupara village of Ghoraghat upazila in Dinajpur district.
Shafiul also used the names ‘Motakin’ and ‘Mottadin’.
Earlier on 9 April, 2014, a violent incident took place between ruling Awami League and BNP-Jamaat activists over the handover of power to elected chairman of Ghoraghat Upazila Parishad.
In this connection, police arrested a BNP and a Jamaat worker with local arms.
Later police filed a case under the Explosive Substances Act against 151 people and chargesheeted against 150 people in this regard.
However, Abdul Hye is a charge-sheeted accused in that case.
Police sources said that since then, Abdul Hye has been absconding with his family in Dhaka without bail.
The case is currently under trial in Dinajpur District Court.
Besides, RAB arrested Enamul, a cousin of Shafiul from Ranigarh Bazar in Ghoraghat Upazila after the Sholakia attack.
