DHAKA: Former vice chancellor of Dhaka University Dr Emajuddin Ahmed commented that Jamaat-e-Islami, the major ally of BNP, has become a liability for the 20-party alliance.
He made the remark at a discussion on national unity against militancy held at National Press Club in city on Tuesday (August 2).
“For BNP-led 20-party alliance Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has become a liability. They are no more an asset now,” the veteran educationist said.
Dr Emajuddin further said national unity is needed to curb militancy in the country. BNP can exclude Jamaat for the sake of national unity, he added.
Noted politicians Bangabir Kader Siddique, ASM Abdur Rob, columnist Syed Abul Maksud, BNP vice chairman Abdullah Al Noman, Jatiya Party (Kazi Zafar) secretary general Mustafa Kamal Haidar and Kalyan party chairman Major General (retd) Syed Mohammad Ibrahim, among others, attended the discussion.
