DHAKA: The Election Commission (EC) will arrange polls in nine municipalities of the country on Sunday (August 7).
Voting will begin at 8:00am and continue till 4:00pm on the day.
EC Public Relations Department director SM Asaduzzaman told banglanews that the election will be held at Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat, Nilphamari’s Domar, Rangpur’s Pirganj, Patuakhali’s Golachipa, Narail’s Lohagara, Bogra’s Sonatola and Pabna’s Bera.
Moreover, the by-election in Shariatpur’s Naria for mayoral position will be held on the same day.
A total of 18 candidates -- nine from ruling Awami League, seven from BNP, one from Jatiya Party and Sammobadi Dal each, will compete in the election. As many as 21 candidates will complete independently.
A total of 337 candidates for the member posts and 82 will fight for the reserve posts.
A joint team of 12 platoons Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and 36 teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel will patrol the election areas.
