DHAKA: Voting in nine municipalities, including by-election in one municipality, of the country ended and counting is underway on Sunday (August 7).
Voting that began at 8:00am, continued till 4:00pm.
The elections were arranged at Dinajpur’s Ghoraghat, Nilphamari’s Domar, Rangpur’s Pirganj, Patuakhali’s Golachipa, Narail’s Lohagara, Bogra’s Sonatola, Tangail’s Ghatail and Pabna’s Bera.
Moreover, the by-election for mayoral position was also held in Shariatpur’s Naria.
A total of 18 candidates -- nine from ruling Awami League, seven from BNP, one each from Jatiya Party and Sammobadi Dal -- are competing in the elections. As many as 21 candidates are vying independently.
A total of 337 candidates for the member posts and 82 are competing for the reserve posts.
A joint team of 12 platoons Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members and 36 teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) personnel are deployed in the polls areas.
