DHAKA: BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia commented that construction of a coal-based power plant in Rampal by the Sundarbans will be an anti-state project.
She made the comment while addressing a press conference at her Gulshan office in city on Wednesday (24 August).
“If the project is implemented, it will destroy the biodiversity of the world’s largest mangrove forest.”
The plant will also hamper the species of the forest and livelihood of people of the area, she said.
According to her, the environment experts both at home and abroad also expressed their concern regarding the issue.
“But the government is not paying any heed to their concern,” the BNP chief added.
