DHAKA: A city court on Tuesday (August 30) summoned BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia over her false birthday documents case.

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Mazharul Islam passed the summon order after taking the case in cognizance.

Earlier in the day, Dhaka Union of Journalists former joint general secretary Gazi Zahirul Islam filed the case at Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court against BNP chief on an allegation of harming many people by celebrating her birthday on the basis of fake documents.

The case statement said that after losing power in 1996 BNP chief Khaleda Zia managed the fake documents of her birthday to celebrate on August 15, the national mourning day, which is a betrayal of the nation.
