DHAKA: Former chief election commissioner Dr ATM Shamsul Huda affirmed that a free and fair election is possible by appointing qualified commissioners.

Moreover, an election commission should be formed considering the opinions of all political parties and their participation could result a neutral and acceptable election.

The former chief election commissioner came up with this assertion while speaking as chief guest in a debate competition at Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC) auditorium in city on Saturday (October 29).

Debate for Democracy arranged the competition titled “Election Commission or people including candidates are more important for fair election”.

The faith of political parties on election will return along with the appointment of eligible election commissioners and appropriately formed commission, Dr Huda added.

However, Debate for Democracy chairman Hassan Ahmed Chowdhury Kiron chaired the event while Dr SM Morshed, Dr ASM Solaiman and Mehedi Hasan Tamin were judges in the debate.

In the competition, Prime Asia University defeated BGMEA University of Fashion and Technology.
