DHAKA: Two Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) men were sued under the Arms Act for attacking hawkers with firearms during an eviction drive in city’s Gulistan area on October 27.
Metropolitan Detective Brach (DB) of police joint commissioner Abdul Baten said this at a press briefing at Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre on Tuesday (November 01).
Shahbagh Thana police filed a case against the duo on Monday night (October 31).
The two BCL men are general secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan South unit Sabbir Hossain and general secretary of Wari Thana unit Ashiqur Rahman.
Earlier, they had been expelled from the party units.
On October 27, Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) employees and some youths engaged in clashes with the hawkers during an eviction of illegal shops. The two BCL men were caught in photographs with arms which later published in newspapers.
