DHAKA: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia paid her respect to the Martyred Intellectuals by placing floral wreaths at Martyred Intellectuals’ Memorial at Mirpur in Dhaka Wednesday (December 14).
Flanked by senior leaders of the party, Khaleda placed the wreath around 10:30 am.
Party’s secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, and standing committee members Dr Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain, Dr. Moin Khan, and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, and Vice-chairman Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain were present here.
Besides, chairperson’s adviser Aman Ullah Aman, Habibur Rahman Habib, senior joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, joint secretary general Khairul Kabir Khokon, BNP’s cultural wing JASAS’ president MA Malek, general secretary Monir Khan, Mohila Dal president Afroza Abbas, general secretary Sultana Ahmed, Chhatra Dal president Rajib Ahsan and general secretary Ekramul Hasan were also attended here.
Later, Mirza Fakhrul Islam said journalists that the country’s democracy has got stuck in a rut after 46 years’ of liberation. “We have been fighting for a free democratic society.”
“All the people who killed the intellectuals in 1971 and opposed independence should be brought under trial but the process must not be politically motivated,” he added.
