KUSHTIA: A clash between two factions of Awami League in Kushtia has left one person dead and at least 10 others injured on Friday (February 3).
The deceased was identified as Idris Ali, 45, son of late Gofur Member.
According to locals, there was a longstanding dispute between Awami League union general secretary Abdul Kader and AL ward president Afzal Hossain over establishing supremacy in Jiarkhi union.
An altercation ensued between the supporters of two groups over the issue and as a sequel of the enmity. They equipped with sharp weapons attacked each other around 8 am, leaving Idris Ali, a supporter of Afzal Hossain, dead on the spot and 10 people of both groups injured, locals added.
The injured were sent to different hospitals.
Kushtia Model Thana officer in charge (OC-investigation) Robiul Islam told Banglanews that the dead body was sent to the Kushtia General Hospital morgue.
To avoid any untoward situation further, additional police members were deployed in the troubled area.
