SHYLHET: Communist party of Bangladesh (CPB) and Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BSD) said that the government backed Chhatra League assailants, who attacked on a rally Sunday, as no initiatives was seen so far to arrest them.

Leaders of the left-leaning parties categorically asserted after observing a half-day hartal on Monday protesting the attack of Chhatra League activists in the rally of CPB and BSD.

The leaders termed the incident as an attack on democracy and urged peoples to assemble under the left parties.

However, Chhatra League president HM Bodiuzzaman Sohag apologized to the parties for the unsolicited incident.

He came with the assertion in a press briefing at Dhaka University on Monday.

Earlier on Sunday at least 25 leaders and activists of CPB, BSD including Mujahidul Islam Selim and Khalekuzzaman were injured as Chhatra League activists attacked a rally in Sylhet.
