DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is set to lay foundation stone of the first phase of much-awaited Ruppur Nuclear Power Plant with 2000-MW capability on Wednesday.

State Minister for Science and Technology affairs Architect Dr Yeafesh Osman came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists on Tuesday.

The minister also told journalists: “There will be modernized security curtain in protection to avert any hazardous disaster like Fukushima nuclear power plant tragedy in Japan. So, there is nothing to be worried about the project.”

He also said, “The inauguration of the nuclear power plant will spot Bangladesh as the 32nd member of world’s nuclear power plant chamber.”

It has been estimated to produce 2000-MW electricity from two nuclear reactors of the project within five years.
