DHAKA: Criticizing the opportunists, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday claimed that the country is developed when pro-liberation force remains in power.
“The people, who have sacrificed their lives, can develop the country but the opportunist can’t develop the country,” she said.
The premier, also ruling Awami League, came up with the observation after inaugurating the second unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital with 600-bed in the morning.
Sheikh Hasina also criticized the then BNP-led four-party alliance government for closing Community Clinics after assuming power in 2001.
The war criminals and their supporters never hope any good for the country, she added.
She said the Awami League government during its 1996-2001 tenure had taken the project for expansion of the DMCH and she laid the foundation stone of the hospital on April 18, 2001.
But, after change of power in 2001, the project, like many others, was put on hold for eight years. The Awami League government taking office in 2009 resumed the project completing its construction during its present tenure, she said.
With secretary of health ministry MN Niaz Uddin in the chair, the function was addressed, among others, by Director General Dr Khandakar M Sifayet Ullah, Project Director Dr Baijid Khurshid Reaz, Minister AFM Ruhul Haque, State Minister for Health affairs Mujibur Rahman Fakir and Chairman of Worker’s Party Rashed Khan Menon.
