DHAKA: Bashundhara ‘New Year Golf Cup Tournament-2014’ ended amid gala festivals, prize giving ceremony and music festivals on Tuesday night.   

The three-day Golf Tournament was inaugurated on December 26 and concluded by giving prize’s to winners in different categories.

Principle Staff Officer of Prime Minister Office, Lieutenant General Abu Belal Mohammad Shafiul Haque addressed the concluding ceremony as chief guest.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Senior Vice President of Army Golf Club and Director General of Defense Purchase Major General Masud Razzaq were present in the ceremony as special guests.

Addressing the ceremony Shafiul Haque said, “Bashundhara Group is the key patronizer of Golf and sports sector in the country and the business group is not only moving through capital but also keeping social responsibility and it is remarkable for all.”

He added: “Bashundhara have been arranging the golf tournament for five years and it is a great effort to boost up sports sectors.”  

In the ceremony, Bashundhara Group Chairman’s speech was delivered by the Head of HR of the Bashundhara Group Lieutenant Colonel Abdul Wahed.

In the speech he emphasized on progress of sports in Bangladesh and thanked the golf club for giving such an opportunity to make the event successful.

Afroza Begum, wife of Bashundhara Group Chairman, handed over the prizes to winners in different categories of the tournament.   

A total of 600 golfers took part in five categories; junior, senior, ladies, regular and veteran.

Group Captain Ashraful Azhar won the senior category title, Master Siyam on junior, Major General Mahmudul Hassan on regular, M Abdul Aziz George and Miss Tashfia won the ladies category title.
 
The tournament committee chairman Brigadier General Manjur Kader, Chief Advisor of Bashundhara Group Mahabub Morshed and Media Advisor of Bashundhara Group Major General (retd) Mahabub Haider Chowdhury were among others present on the occasion.
