Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana suffered a grade one hamstring injury on his left leg during the second T20I against Bangladesh, which ruled him out of the third T20I against Bangladesh on Saturday.
Pathirana, one of Sri Lanka’s quickest bowlers, clocks over 150 kph regularly and has become one of the most important members of the side in the death overs.
In the second game, Pathirana was seen clutching his left hamstring during his fourth over and even though he completed the first spell, he failed to continue to bowl the second spell.
With the series being tied 1-1, the final T20I in Sylhet becomes very important for both sides.
Pathirana’s absence for the third T20I will keep his IPL team Chennai Super Kings alert, for the fact that Pathirana was one of the most crucial players for the defending champions in their winning 2023 season.
Chennai Super Kings are already grappling with injuries to Devon Conway and Shivam Dube and both are doubtful for the upcoming season that starts on March 22.
Pathirana’s injury might add insult to the injury for the MS Dhoni-led side.
