Young energetic Bangladesh crushing powerful West Indies 3-0 in the bilateral T20 series in their own backyard created milestone setting whitewash for the first time in Cricket history. The third match today was won by a huge 80 runs. First two matches were won by 7 and 27 runs. Bangladesh never won a T20 match against West Indies in West Indies before.
Today Bangladesh batting first scored an imposing total of 189/7 mainly due to flamboyant innings of unbeaten 72 from 41 deliveries by power hitter Jaker Ali. Parvez Hossain Emon getting opportunity for the first time in the series for the absence of Soumya Sarkar blasted 39 of 24 balls. On a wicket where stroke play was not so easy, determined Bangladeshis played with a mission. The innings got a bit startled after Litton Kumar Das now going through a very lean patch and Tanzid Tamim failed to fire.
Mehidi Hasan Miraj developed into a brilliant all-rounder and contributed 29 of 23 deliveries. Two unfortunate run outs through misunderstanding witnessed Shamim Hossain and Mahedi Hasan leaving in quick succession. But Jaker Ali first developing a late order power hitter took Caribbean bowlers apart blasting them all over the park. His unbeaten innings of 72 contained 3 fours and 6 sixes. 23 runs came in the last over of the innings bowled by Aljari Josef.
West Indies was expected to bounce back for salvaging some pride. But that was not to be. Aggressive high quality Bangladesh bowling unit hunting in a group decimated West Indies to 109 all out in 16.4 Overs. Taskin set the tone removing Bredan King in the first over. Mehedi Hasan (2/13) and Rishad Hossain (3/21) strangled them. West Indies had no answer to belligerent Bangladeshis hungry for the win. Bangladesh won huge and handsome.
It was a great T20 series win by Bangladesh against a team 4th in the ICC Ranking. Winning by 3-0 in their backyard by a young team missing few experienced players Bangladesh loudly announced arrival of a strong Bangladeshi unit. The team now has a brilliant match winning bowling unit, some flamboyant top and late order batsmen. With some great away wins Bangladesh has completed 2024 with some golden memories.
