Harry Maguire netted a dramatic stoppage-time winner as FA Cup holders Manchester United staged a comeback to defeat Leicester City and secure their place in the fifth round.
With extra time and a possible penalty shootout looming, Bruno Fernandes delivered a pinpoint free-kick into the box, where Maguire rose to head the ball into the net. However, replays suggested the defender may have been offside. With VAR not in use at this stage of the competition, the officials did not flag the infringement, allowing the goal to stand—much to the frustration of Leicester’s players and fans.
The victory provided a much-needed lift for United supporters, who had endured five defeats in their last seven home matches at Old Trafford.
Leicester had taken the lead late in a largely uneventful first half when Bobby De Cordova-Reid nodded in from close range after Andre Onana's save from Wilfred Ndidi’s shot looped into his path.
United, however, looked far more dangerous after the break, helped by the introduction of Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentine winger caused Leicester plenty of problems with his direct runs, and it was his cross that led to the equalizer. Rasmus Højlund’s initial effort was blocked, but substitute Joshua Zirkzee reacted quickly to side-foot the ball home moments after coming on.
With momentum on their side, United pushed for the winner, and Maguire delivered in the final moments. His header deep into stoppage time sealed the victory—though Leicester fans were left fuming over the controversial nature of the goal.
