Bangladesh ended the second day of the first Test against Zimbabwe at 57 for 1, still 25 runs behind.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz and debutant Nahid Rana bowled brilliantly to bowl Zimbabwe out for 273, keeping the match finely balanced at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Chasing an 82-run deficit, Bangladesh began their second innings cautiously under fading light. However, opener Shadman Islam's poor run continued as he was dismissed for just 4, edging Blessing Muzarabani to Sean Williams at second slip.
Mominul Haque (15*) and Mahmudul Hasan Joy (28*) showed composure to guide the hosts to stumps without further damage.
Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe resumed at 114 for 2 and were eventually bowled out for 273, gaining a first-innings lead of 82 runs after Bangladesh had posted 191 on day one.
Nahid Rana struck early, removing Ben Curran (18) to break the 69-run opening stand. He then dismissed Joylord Gumbie, who had made a brisk 57 off 65 balls.
Zimbabwe lost wickets at regular intervals, with Mehidy leading the charge after lunch. Sean Williams top-scored with 59 off 108 deliveries, while Nyasha Mayavo added 35.
The lower order provided resistance, but Mehidy's 5 for 52 and Nahid’s 3 for 75 ensured Bangladesh stayed within striking distance.
Hasan Mahmud and Khaled Ahmed claimed one wicket apiece, while debutant wicketkeeper Zaker Ali impressed with sharp glovework, including a stumping.
