Tigers’ 105-run win over Afghans

DHAKA: Bangladesh generated a brilliant all-round performance to beat Afghanistan by 105 in their first match of ICC World Cup 2015 in Canberra on Wednesday.

Afghanistan lost all wickets to score 162 runs while chasing Bangladesh-set 268-run target.

Afghan captain Mohammad Nabi scored 44-run while Samiullah Shenwari took 42-run.

Bangladeshi opening bowlers, Mashrafe Mortaza and Rubel Hossain took three top order batsmen of Afghanistan in the first three overs of Afghanistan innings.

Mashrafe Mortaza took 3-wicket while Shakib Al Hasan took two and     Rubel Hossain,     Taskin Ahmed and Mahmudullah grabbed one wicket each.

Earlier, Tigers’ captain Mashrafe Mortaza won toss and decided to bat at Manuka Oval stadium.

With fifties of all rounder Shakib Al Hasan and former captain Mushfiqur Rahim, Bangladesh scored 267 runs for all wickets in the stipulated 50-over.

Mushfiqur Rahim is the player of the match for his outstanding 71 off 56 balls.

Shakib Al Hasan also scored 63 runs off 51 balls. The World’s best all-rounder entered the 4000-run club as the first Bangladeshi batsman in One Day Internationals With the 23rd run of his total 63 at the match.

Hamid Hassan, Aftab Alam, Mirwais Ashraf and Shapoor Zadran bagged two wickets each while Mohammad Nabi picked up one.

Mominul Haque, however, was the victim of run out.
