Hafeez, Azhar making strong reply

DHAKA: Pakistan batsmen, led by Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali, are replying the Bangladesh first innings total of 332-run strongly in the first Test at Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium in Khulna on Wednesday.

At the end of second day, Pakistan scored 227-run losing the wicket of debutant opener Sami Aslam. The visitors are trailing by 105 runs with 9 wickets remaining in their 1st innings.

Mohammad Hafeez and Azhar Ali are on the crease with 137 and 65 runs recpectively. Of the Bangladesh bowlers, Taijul Islam was the lone wicket taker.

Earlier, Bangladesh scored 332 runs losing all wickets in their first innings. Tigers lost their last six wickets adding only 96 runs with their overnight score of 236-run at the loss of four.

Among the Pakistan bowlers, Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah were most successful by bagging three wickets each, while Hafeez and Babar got two wickets each.

Earlier on Tuesday, Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim won the toss and opted to bat first in the match that kicked off at 10:00am local time.

Mominul Haque, Imrul Kayes and Mahmudullah’s responsible batting helped Bangladesh score 236 for four at stumps on the opening day of Khulna test.

Mominul Haque was the top scorer with 80-run while Imrul Kayes, Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Mushfiqur Rahim, Tamim Iqbal and Shakib Al Hasan took 51, 49, 33, 32, 25 and 25 runs respectively.
