DHAKA: The 209 members of Fifa are set to vote for their new president at their congress in Zurich, amid a huge corruption scandal, reports BBC.

Sepp Blatter is seeking a fifth term. His only challenger is Prince Ali bin al-Hussein of Jordan.

The vote comes two days after seven top officials were held in Zurich in a US fraud inquiry that indicted 14 people.

Both Blatter, 79, and Prince Ali, 39, will have 15 minutes to address the delegates. Each of the 209 member associations can then vote.

In the first round, a candidate must get two-thirds of the votes to win outright, or 140 votes. If that is not achieved there will be a second round requiring a simple majority, even though there are only two candidates.

ESPN FC reports: The United States will vote for Prince Ali despite the potential for reprisals in future World Cup bids if the incumbent is re-elected.

U.S. Soccer president Sunil Gulati believes that Prince Ali can unseat Blatter when the organization votes for its leader in Zurich.

“U.S. Soccer will vote for Prince Ali bin Al Hussein for next president of FIFA. This is a vote for good governance & promise for our game,” said Sunil Gulati in his Twitter account.

The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) will not boycott Friday's FIFA congress and plans to unite behind FIFA presidential candidate Prince Ali, added ESPN FC.

UEFA president Michel Platini has also not ruled out the possibility of a World Cup boycott by UEFA members if Sepp Blatter is re-elected as FIFA president.

The European football body had called for Friday's congress, when voting for the FIFA presidential election will take place, to be postponed after Swiss authorities arrested several top FIFA officials on Wednesday relating to federal corruption charges.
