Day-2 play abandoned for rain

DHAKA: Heavy rain washed out the play on the second day of the one-off Test between Bangladesh and India at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah on Thursday.

The umpires visited the ground from time to time as rainfall has been pouring in phases since the morning. Play of the second day was called off around 1:40pm due to bad weather.

Play of the day three will resume at 9.30am on Friday.

However, the match has repeatedly been affected by rainfall since the test began on Wednesday.

Earlier on Wednesday, despite having 34 overs lost due to rain interruption and bad light, India scored 239 runs with no loss at stamps on Day-1.

Shikhar Dhawan bounced back with a very aggressive unbeaten 150. Murali Vijay was also solid with his 89 not out. The pair scored their second 200-run opening partnership.

India with the advantage of bowling last on this wicket has its grip very firm on the test. Unless the weather interferes it will be extremely challenging for Bangladesh to save the match from here.

Meanwhile, met office on Thursday forecasted the bad weather accompanied by heavy rainfall is likely to continue for next three days.

The rainfall occurred as trough of low lies over North West Bay and Southwest and monsoon has advanced up to central part of Bangladesh, according to sources of met office.
