DHAKA: Host New Zealand beat Bangladesh by 77-run in the first match and took 1-0 lead in the three-match One Day International (ODI) series at Hagley Oval, Christchurch on Monday (December 26).

Batting first, Kiwis scored a massive 341-run against the visiting Bangladesh thanks to opener Tom Latham who hit a blazing knock of 137-run off 121-ball with the help of seven 4’s and four 6’s while Colin Munro whammed 87-run off 61-ball with eight 4’s and four 6’s.

Besides, Kane Williamson and Neil Broom scored 31 and 22 runs respectively helping the team to reach the massive total.

Shakib Al Hasan picked up three Kiwi wickets while Mustafizur Rahman and Taskin Ahmed took two wickets each.

In response, Bangladesh managed to score 264-run losing nine wickets from 44.5-over. Mushfiqur Rahim retired hurt on 42-run.

Besides, Shakib Al Hasan, Mossadek Hossain and Tamim Iqbal scored 59, 50 and 38 runs respectively. This was Mosaddek’s maiden half century.

JDS Neesham and L Ferguson picked up three wickets each while Tim Southee took two and M Santner one wicket.

The two teams will play the second ODI at Nelson on December 29.
