DHAKA: The batsmen of visiting Bangladesh have handled the howling wind and gale than the bowlers of host New Zealand in the first day’s play of first match at Basin Reserve in Wellington on Thursday (January 12).

The Tigers have scored 119 runs losing the wickets of Imrul Kayes and Tamim Iqbal till the tea break in the rain interrupted first day’s play.

Tamim scored a blazing 56-run innings off 50-ball while Kayes scored only 1-run. Currently, Mominul Haque and Mahmudullah are on the crease with 48 and 13 runs respectively.

Trent Boult and Tim Southee took one wicket each for the Kiwis.

Earlier, New Zealand captain Kane Williamson won the toss on a Basin Reserve pitch he described as soft and likely to assist seam movement and invited Bangladesh to bat first.

Meanwhile, Wellington’s weather lived up to its reputation as gale force northerlies forecast for up to 120kmh rattled the Vance Stand and forced camera operators down from their scaffolding at the southern end due to safety concerns, reports stuff.co.nz.
