DHAKA: Sri Lanka beat Bangladesh by 259-run in the first test at Galle International Stadium on Saturday (March 11) as the visitors lost all 10 wickets on the fifth day of the match.

In response to the target of 457-run set by the hosts after they declared their second innings on 274/6, Bangladesh managed to score only 197-run losing all wickets in 60.2-over.

Soumya Sarkar was the top scorer with 53-run while Liton Das, Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehedi Hasan Miraz scored 35, 34 and 28 runs.

Herath was the most successful bowler for the home team. He picked up six wickets while Dilruan Perera took two wickets. Besides, Asela gunaratne and Lakshan Sandakan took one wicket each.

With the six wickets, Herath established himself as the most successful left-arm spinner in Test cricket ever.

Earlier, Sri Lanka captain Herath won the toss and decided to bat first on a well-rolled placid wicket. They scored 494-run in the first innings losing all wickets.

Kusal Mendis hit 194-run while Asela Gunaratne, Niroshan Dickwella and Dilruan Perera scored 85, 75 and 51 runs respectively.

Of the Bangladesh bowlers, Miraz picked up four wickets giving away 113 in 22 over while Mustafizur Rahman took two giving away 68 runs in 25 over.

Besides, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy and Shakib Al Hasan took one wicket each. Suranga Lakmal ran himself out.

In response, Bangladesh scored 312-run losing all wickets. Captain Mushfiqur Rahim was the top scorer with 85-run while Soumya Sarkar, Tamim Iqbal and Miraz amassed 71, 57 and 41 runs respectively.

Dilruan Perera and Rangana Herath picked up three wickets each while Suranga Lakmal, Lahiru Kumara and Lakshan Sandakan took one wicket each.

Kusal Mendis was adjudged as the Player of the Match for his first-innings 194-run that set the tone for Sri Lanka.
