DHAKA: Shakib Al Hassan has received the best sportsman award for 2017. The Bangladesh Sports Press Association (BSPA) announced the ‘Kool BSPA Sports Award 2017’ and nominated Shakib and two others for the award.  

Alongside Shakib Al Hassan, the two others are- Arnab Sarar Ladif and Mohammed Jafar Iqbal. They were adjudged the best sports man of 2017 in their respective fields.

The award giving ceremony was held at the Hotel Sonargoan in the city on Saturday (January 06).

Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed handed over the awards and the certificates to the winners.

BSPA president Mostafa Mamun chaired the function, while sportsmen, crickets, footballers, players, organizers, stars and many others joined it.

Among them, Saba Nayek of World Sports Journalists Association, sports organizer Tarafder Ruhul Amin, former cricket captain Rakibul Hasan, Jalal Ahmed Chowdhury, Abu Sadek, Shamima Sattar Mimu and Kamrunnahar Dana.

Shakib gets the award for the best cricket in 2017, while Arnab for the best shooter and Jafar Iqbal for the best footballer. The winners of other discipline are – Enamul Hossain Rajb in chess, Sonom Sultana Shoma in table tennis, Junaina Ahmed in swimming, Mohammed Salahuddin in cricket coach, and organizer Mahfuza Akhter Kiron.

The BSPA has been giving the award among the best players of different disciplines, organizers, coaches, sponsors and special awards since 1964.
